Genre.


What is Genre?


Film genres are various forms, categories, classifications or groups of films that have similar or instantly-recognizable conventions such as:
  • Settings and props.

  • Content.

  • Theme.

  • Mood

  • Plot.

  • Style.

  • Stars.

Some films are considered hybrids because they fall into many genres.



Genre's functions can be seen as a set of rules or laws. It was seen as a creative strategy used by producers to ensure a film was easily identified by audiences and didn't fail. Genre is not static and it can easily change over time.



The repertoire has expanded through the development of specific cycles. Studies are associated with specific genre developments.
