The film remake of Halloween is classed as a horror and typical conventions of a horror are:
- Fast camera movement and varied angles to create an effect of panic and fear.
- Usually some sort of flashback is incorporated into the films, usually that of a childhood of the antagonist of the movie.
- Music is used to help build up the tension and used to create fear.
- There's usually a main character in the story that the antagonist is trying to kill or injure and they are usually left till the end of the movie.
- Killer/killer's in the film usually have a trademark weapon or feature of some kind.
- Isolated locations.
- Equilibrium is disrupted.
A technical code of the film would be things such as the flash transitions used which cause an effect of fear and tension. Also, the use of the camera angles used and how the movie is filmed is in a way that makes the audience feel as if they're part of the film itself and it makes the whole experience much more realistic.
A signifier of the film would of course be the name of the film itself - 'Halloween'. Halloween is traditionally associated as a time where people will dress up as scary creatures and it's a holiday where people are usually taking part in activities like telling ghost stories, scary otheres and playing pranks and visiting 'haunted' attractions. Because of this people can instantly understand the film is going to be one involving things such as that and it's therefore going to fall into the Horror genre.
From watching the opening, you can tell the that the films is going to be a horror, for instance there's lots of swearing and strong language which is usually associated with violence which is of course vital in a horror film, also at the start of the opening there's a man scene is a mask, the mask being that of what i assume is a clown. Clowns are well known as being a big phobia and fear of some people so using that also shows us that the film's genre is that of Horror.
The desired audience of this film will be people over the age of 18 who enjoy watching horror films, especially slashers.
